Datapay & ELMO syncs HR & payroll for NZ employers

Thu, 12th Feb 2026

Datapay, Datacom's New Zealand payroll product, has partnered with ELMO Software to integrate payroll with ELMO's HR platform for organisations in New Zealand.

The tie-up links ELMO's workforce platform with Datapay's payroll system, targeting employers with complex payroll settings and compliance obligations. It also aligns with ELMO's New Zealand strategy of working with specialist payroll providers rather than using a single payroll model across markets.

Two-way data

The integration enables two-way data flow between HR and payroll. It is designed to reduce duplicate data entry, improve consistency between HR records and payroll outputs, and support audit and compliance processes without manual reconciliation.

Datapay is a cloud-based payroll solution for medium to large New Zealand organisations, built around local payroll rules and compliance requirements. It is supported by locally based payroll teams with experience in the country's regulatory environment.

The partnership forms part of ELMO's ongoing investment in New Zealand. ELMO sells HR and payroll software across Australia, New Zealand and the UK, and the broader ELMO Group includes Breathe HR and Rotageek.

Joseph Lyons, President of ELMO Software, said payroll requirements in New Zealand were particularly exacting and that the deal expanded ELMO's partner ecosystem.

"Payroll in New Zealand leaves little room for compromise. This partnership reflects our continued investment in the New Zealand market and our commitment to giving organisations choice without complexity. By partnering with Datapay, we're extending our payroll ecosystem with specialist local expertise, while keeping HR and payroll connected on a single, trusted data foundation."

Local focus

Datapay Director Tim Hogan said demand was rising for tighter links between HR and payroll systems, particularly among employers managing complex payroll environments and governance requirements.

He said, "New Zealand organisations often operate in complex payroll environments. Working with ELMO allows Datapay to integrate into a complete workforce platform, while retaining the depth and local knowledge required to run payroll accurately and compliantly."

Under the partnership, ELMO customers in New Zealand can select Datapay as a payroll option within ELMO's ecosystem, alongside ELMO's broader HR modules.

The integration is intended to provide shared visibility of HR and payroll information across connected systems, supporting governance and confidence in payroll outcomes.

Ecosystem approach

The deal also adds ELMO to Datapay's existing partner network. Datapay customers can connect the payroll system with external HR and workforce tools, an approach common among organisations that prefer specialist products over a single suite.

ELMO positions its regional offering as a complete workforce platform for Australia and New Zealand, highlighting unified data and compliance controls alongside access to local expertise.

Datacom, which owns Datapay, operates across Australia, New Zealand and Asia, with more than 6,000 staff providing technology services and products spanning operations, digital and technology delivery.

ELMO Group serves more than 18,000 organisations across Australia, New Zealand and the UK, with HR and payroll software covering stages of the employee lifecycle including recruitment, onboarding, learning and payroll.

Both companies said the partnership is intended to support more connected HR and payroll operations for New Zealand organisations, with the integration now available to ELMO customers in the country as an additional payroll option.
