Feijoa has partnered with Renti Rewards, allowing renters in New Zealand to direct loyalty points into KiwiSaver or investment accounts through Feijoa.

The tie-up adds a rewards element to Feijoa's savings model, which already lets users round up card purchases and invest the difference into nominated KiwiSaver accounts. Under the new arrangement, Renti members will be able to earn points on rent payments and exchange them for savings and investment products offered through Feijoa.

Renti Rewards describes itself as New Zealand's first rent loyalty programme. It is aimed at renters who want to earn points on one of their largest regular household costs, alongside any rewards they already receive from a credit card provider.

For Feijoa, the partnership is the first public step in broadening its offer beyond round-ups and into reward-linked saving. Users have collectively added more than AUD $5.25 million a year to their wealth and investments through round-ups on everyday card purchases.

That figure offers an early sign of demand for automated saving tools in New Zealand, particularly products designed to make contributions part of regular spending rather than a separate budgeting decision.

Mark White-Robinson, Co-founder of Feijoa, said the partnership is intended to make saving more routine for renters.

"Rewards are a new way for us to help even more Kiwis automate how they build their future wealth as part of their everyday spending habits," White-Robinson said.

He said the arrangement reflects Feijoa's wider approach to consumer saving and investing.

"Renti is a natural fit for Feijoa, which is built on the idea that growing wealth should be frictionless and secure, while Renti helps renters get more value from one of their biggest weekly expenses. By partnering, we are enabling renters to get a head start on their future goals, whether that is buying their first home or building their KiwiSaver balance or investments," White-Robinson said.

Rent and savings

The link between rental payments and long-term saving addresses a gap in many consumer finance products. Mortgage repayments often build equity, but rent is usually treated only as an expense. By attaching points to rent and allowing those points to convert into retirement or investment balances, the two companies aim to turn a regular outgoing payment into a path to asset accumulation.

The idea may resonate particularly in New Zealand, where housing costs weigh heavily on household finances and younger consumers can face a long wait before entering the housing market. For many renters, KiwiSaver remains one of the few structured vehicles for long-term saving, including for first-home purchases and retirement.

Claudia Smith, Co-founder of Renti, said the programme is designed to make rent payments more useful to households.

"We're really excited to partner with Feijoa. Rent is a huge part of people's weekly spend, and we believe renters should be able to make their rent work for them. Giving our members the choice to put the points they earn towards their KiwiSaver or investments is exactly what Renti Rewards is about. I love that something you have to pay anyway can now play a small part in helping you get ahead," Smith said.

Broader push

Feijoa launched in September 2025 with a focus on rounding up daily purchases to the nearest dollar and investing the spare change. The product is designed to work with all KiwiSaver schemes in New Zealand and uses open banking connections to link with users' bank accounts.

The business is positioning automation as its central proposition. Rather than relying on customers to make manual transfers or sharply alter spending plans, it aims to move small amounts in the background, whether through spare change from purchases or, now, loyalty points linked to rent.

White-Robinson said the rewards feature extends that original idea.

"From day one, our aim has been to make investing and wealth building part of everyday behaviour, and to make it feel tangible and immediate," he said.

"When we started looking at incorporating rewards, we knew it had to build on this.

"By flowing rewards into your KiwiSaver or investments, we enable them to continue to grow and compound over time, delivering lasting value that a discount or a freebie just can't achieve. This is the next evolution of rewards in New Zealand.

"We want Kiwis to have a choice in how their money works for them, whether that's KiwiSaver or investing alongside it. Until now, the default response to low saving has been to ask people to change their behaviour, but we're proving that by automating and removing friction, saving can happen seamlessly in the background of everyday life," White-Robinson said.

To encourage adoption, Renti customers who sign up to use Feijoa's round-up feature will receive a $15 boost to their KiwiSaver over their first three months.
