Intelligent Canvas launched to boost cross-functional teamwork

Tue, 23rd Jul 2024

Miro has launched the Intelligent Canvas, which aims to transform how teams manage the innovation lifecycle from brainstorming to product delivery.

The new platform is developed to facilitate cross-functional work, integrate AI into workflows, and make teamwork more intuitive and productive.

Jeff Chow, Chief Product and Technology Officer at Miro, explained the motivation behind the new offering.

"True innovation requires cross-functional teams to focus on solving hard, complex problems. And innovation often stalls because it requires a lot of manual work across many different apps and tools. Miros Intelligent Canvas is built to support business processes well beyond the brainstorming phase. It combines AI, composable workflows, and a more intuitive, interactive experience to drive higher team productivity."

"Miros canvas is a central place where teams can focus on making critical decisions, accelerating their ability to bring new products and services to market faster than their competitors."

According to Miro, the Intelligent Canvas is designed to offer unique benefits across three main areas: enhanced canvas experience, AI integration, and composable workflows. These features aim to bridge gaps between various stages of the innovation process and make cross-functional teamwork more effective.

One of the notable features is the improved canvas experience that aims to simplify collaboration. It includes a diagramming mode, which adapts the user interface to better suit advanced diagramming activities, and Spaces, which provide a centralized location for teams to organise Miro boards and third-party documents.

AI integration is a significant aspect of the Intelligent Canvas. It includes features such as AI Sidekicks, which can provide domain-specific expertise, and AI shortcuts, which simplify the creation of structured documents such as product briefs and user stories from unstructured information. These AI tools are intended to speed up ideation and decision-making processes.

Sandrine Veillet, Vice President of Global Product at WebMD, highlighted the potential impact.

"The ability to easily translate insights and decisions from our discovery activities to delivery tasks directly in Miro will help us speed our velocity—not only by breaking silos between Miro and other tools but also by keeping us all aligned on sprint priorities."

Additionally, composable workflows are designed to offer flexibility by allowing teams to create custom workflows suited to their specific needs. Miro has introduced Intelligent widgets, including dot voting, polling, and people estimations, along with Intelligent templates for various tasks such as sprint planning, product planning, and customer journey mapping.

The company hopes that these new capabilities will make it easier for teams to stay aligned and productive, thereby accelerating the innovation lifecycle from discovery through to delivery.

Jeff Chow summarised Miro’s vision for the product. "The heart of Miro has always been an infinite canvas. We’re incredibly excited to start showing our customers the next generation of collaboration and innovation via Miros Intelligent Canvas—one that will fundamentally change how their teams discover, design, and deliver at scale."
