Jamf announces same-day support for Apple's spring OS release
Apple enterprise management provider JAMF has announced same-day support for Apple's spring operating system releases across the Apple product portfolio.
IT administrators who use the Jamf platform will be able to ensure uninterrupted management workflows whilst keeping operating systems across Apple TV, iPad, iPhone and Mac devices up to date.
Customers who use Jamf's mobile device management system (MDM) called Jamf Pro, or the educator-focused MDM Jamf School will be able to take advantage of features such as Shared iPad for businesses.
"New capabilities like Shared iPad for business and temporary session for Shared iPad will help unlock the power of Apple technology in a shared setting. And, with remote management of tethered caching, IT admins can support high-performance provisioning workflows that increase end user productivity," comments Jamf chief technology officer Jason Wudi.
Jamf explains more about new features in Jamf Pro and Jamf school:
Shared iPad for business: The new iPadOS 13.4 and Apple's Business manager now come with support for Shared iPad for those with a managed Apple ID. Jamf states that the Shared iPad for business unlocks new use cases for industries to provide a personalised experience for multiple end users, all while preserving user data.
Jamf states, "After signing in with a Managed Apple ID on any Shared iPad in their organisation, users have access to their apps, data, and settings helping them be productive faster. Shared iPad was previously available to schools with Apple School Manager.
Temporary session for Shared iPad: This allows businesses to use Shared iPad in more ways through iPad OS 13.4. Administrators can enable temporary Shared iPad sessions without the requirement of a managed Apple ID. This means that when a temporary session ends, the iPad can clear all data without needing to wipe the entire device – meaning that the next person can use the device immediately.
Other features include macOS activation lock management and tethered caching support with enhanced visibility.
Tethered caching support and enhanced visibility: This enables admins to remotely enable internet sharing and tethered caching on a Mac. This, in turn, reduces software installation times for iPad and iPhone.
macOS Activation Lock management: Apple has enabled organisations to allow or disallow Activation Lock on macOS 10.15 Catalina. Admins can now collect Activation Lock bypass codes, making it possible to recover computers that have activation lock enabled.
Jamf's other products including Jamf Now, Jamf Connect, and Jamf Protect, also offer same-day support for Apple's spring release with compatibility for the new operating systems, meaning admins can allow upgrades as soon as they wish to do so.
