QuantWare has appointed Bart Filius as Chief Financial Officer and added him to its Board of Directors.

The appointment comes as the Delft-based quantum processor maker expands production and grows its customer base following a USD $178 million Series B round, described as the largest private funding round for a dedicated quantum processor company.

Filius joins from Galapagos, where he spent nearly nine years in senior roles including Chief Financial Officer, Chief Operating Officer and President. During that time, he oversaw financing activities including the company's Nasdaq initial public offering and follow-on fundraisings, and led negotiations on a USD $5 billion research and development collaboration with Gilead.

Before Galapagos, he spent 13 years at Sanofi, serving as Chief Financial Officer of Sanofi Europe and Vice President of Mergers & Acquisitions. He also chairs the audit committee at ProQR Therapeutics.

At QuantWare, Filius takes on the finance role as the company builds KiloFab, an industrial-scale fabrication facility in the Netherlands. It now serves more than 50 customers across 20 countries.

QuantWare was founded in 2021 by Matt Rijlaarsdam and Alessandro Bruno as a spinout from QuTech at TU Delft. The company designs, fabricates and integrates quantum processors based on its VIO architecture for superconducting qubits.

It says it has shipped more quantum processors than any other commercial supplier. Its backers include Intel Capital and IQT.

Growth plans

The hire brings public-market, dealmaking and operational experience to a company shifting from research-led development to larger-scale manufacturing and broader commercial sales. Its next stage will require long-term research spending, substantial capital investment and partnerships with major technology companies.

Rijlaarsdam, Chief Executive Officer and Co-Founder of QuantWare, outlined the rationale for the appointment.

"Our mission is hyperscaling quantum processors to solve humanity's greatest challenges, which requires building a company that operates at a global scale," said Matt Rijlaarsdam, Chief Executive Officer and Co-Founder of QuantWare. "Bart is a true leader who knows what it is like to build a hypergrowth company, through good times and challenging ones. He is an exceptional profile, and I'm delighted to have him on our side as we continue to grow our business."

For Filius, the move marks a shift from listed biotech to a privately held hardware company in the quantum sector, where businesses are trying to scale production while proving commercial demand.

"QuantWare has the ambition, the technology and the team to lead the industrialization and commercialization of quantum computing," said Bart Filius, Chief Financial Officer of QuantWare. "What attracted me most was the scale of the vision and the energy of the team pursuing it, and I look forward to building the financial foundations for QuantWare's next phase of growth."
