ICC enhances arbitration platform with Opus 2 technology

Yesterday

The International Chamber of Commerce (ICC) has introduced a new version of its ICC Case Connect platform, which is now supported by Opus 2's technology.

ICC Case Connect, a platform designed to enhance case management in arbitration, aims to improve the efficiency of dispute resolution by integrating secure online document sharing, case management, and ICC Court decisions.

Ana Serra e Moura, Deputy Secretary General of the ICC International Court of Arbitration, commented on the launch: "ICC Case Connect powered by Opus 2 modernises processes with a seamless platform for document sharing, case management, and ICC Court decisions — all in one place. It has been redesigned for the way business works today, helping dispute resolution become more efficient."

The initial version of ICC Case Connect was launched in 2022. Since then, the ICC has been working to incorporate more advanced digital technologies into the platform, with Opus 2 as a key partner in this programme. The platform features enhanced tools and a more intuitive user interface. Future expansions are expected to include features for Amicable Dispute Resolution (ADR) cases, broadening the platform's utility.

ICC's objective with the updated ICC Case Connect is to make dispute resolution processes more accessible, transparent, and effective. The platform is currently utilised by over 10,000 party representatives and more than 8,000 arbitrators around the world. It provides a centralised, cloud-based workspace where all involved parties, arbitral tribunals, and the ICC Secretariat can collaborate securely and effectively, regardless of location.

The improved platform includes features to address the complexities involved in ICC arbitration from the outset of a case to its final resolution. Enhanced electronic filing allows for the straightforward submission and processing of arbitration requests, supported by an e-payment system for filing fees. The platform also offers a centralised system for digital document management, enabling real-time access and secure sharing of case-related documents among all parties involved.

Dedicated portals for parties and arbitrators offer tailored access to documents and case information, enhancing user-specific interactions. Financial management is strengthened through integrated financial processes and a built-in arbitrator expense management system. Administrative workflows are optimised to facilitate task management and decision-making, helping to maintain the momentum of arbitration proceedings. Customisable user accounts are available, allowing for personalisation and secure handling of case administration.

A new self-registration feature for arbitrators has also been introduced, allowing applicants to submit information that could increase their visibility within the ICC network.

Charlie Harrel, Chief Operating Officer at Opus 2, expressed his enthusiasm for the collaboration: "We're incredibly proud of what we have built with the ICC. Collaborating with them on this project has been a real pleasure. From having a clear, strategic vision to recognising the value of replacing multiple, redundant technologies with a single, purpose-built solution, ICC has been driving important advancements that elevate the quality of global dispute resolution proceedings. This aligns exactly with Opus 2's vision. We are now uniquely able to support arbitration practitioners at any stage in proceedings, from case inception through ongoing case management, and of course, at the hearing itself."
