Kordia CEO Shaun Rendell steps down for health reasons

Fri, 15th Mar 2024

Shaun Rendell, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Kordia, New Zealand's top telecommunications and broadcast organisation, has announced his resignation due to personal health considerations. His exit from the company takes effect on the 1st of April, 2024.

Kordia anticipates having an acting CEO in place by April. Following this interim appointment, the board will launch a profound executive search to identify a suitable replacement for Rendell.

Sophie Haslem, the Kordia Board Chair, expressed regret over Shaun's departure: "Shaun has been a valuable part of Kordia for over a decade. Although it is unfortunate he has resigned, the Board appreciates he has made the right decision for his personal recovery and for the continuity of the company. We extend our gratitude for his service and wish him the best".

Regarding his decision, Rendell admitted disappointment but stressed the importance of health. The former CEO faced an accident earlier this year which demands an extended period of recovery time. "While I expect to return to full health in due course, the best decision for me, my family and Kordia is to step back from work and concentrate on my recovery," he said.

Despite his imminent exit, Rendell reflected fondly on his time with Kordia, stating, "I'm incredibly sad to be leaving the Kordia family. The company and its people have been a significant part of my life over the past decade. I'll be eager to observe the team's success in 2024 and beyond."

Rendell was a notable figure within Kordia, first joining the company in 2012 as Group Chief Financial Officer (CFO). He progressed into the role of CEO in 2019, initially as an acting CEO during former Kordia leader Scott Bartlett's medical leave for cancer treatment. He was then made permanent CEO in 2020.

Rendell's leadership era was defined by strategic expansion as the company ventured further into cybersecurity, cloud and managed IT through key strategic purchases and growth.

In this transition phase, Jason Fullerton-Smith, Kordia's current Chief Operating Officer, will undertake the CEO responsibilities until an interim appointment is finalised.
