MTF receives high commendation for trust in car loan awards
MTF has been recognised as Highly Commended in the car loan category of the 2025 Reader's Digest Most Trusted Brands Awards.
The company was acknowledged for its ongoing commitment to transparency, community engagement, and supporting New Zealanders in achieving improved financial outcomes. The 2025 commendation follows MTF's win in the same category in 2024.
The Reader's Digest Most Trusted Brands Awards, now in their 26th year, are based on one of New Zealand's most comprehensive consumer trust surveys. This year's survey, conducted by Catalyst Research, involved over 1,800 New Zealanders who were asked without prompting to name brands they genuinely trust across a range of industries, including finance, healthcare, food, and home services.
Each category in the survey identifies a single winner and two highly commended brands, with the selections reflecting those seen as reliable, ethical, and values-driven by New Zealanders. MTF's High Commendation in the car loan provider segment places it among brands most trusted by consumers in Aotearoa.
MTF holds a 4.9 out of 5-star rating on Trustpilot, based on over 14,000 reviews, making it the highest-rated finance company on the platform in New Zealand. The company also reports a Net Promoter Score (NPS) of 80, which significantly exceeds the industry's typical single-digit or negative averages.
Natasha Callister, Chief Commercial Officer at MTF, described the recognition as particularly significant given the industry's general association with low consumer trust. "Finance isn't always an industry people naturally associate with trust, so to be recognised by everyday Kiwis – not just once, but twice, is incredibly humbling," says Callister.
"At MTF, we've always believed trust is earned, not claimed. It's the way we sit down with our customers, explain things clearly, and do what we say we'll do. This award reflects thousands of those everyday moments. We walk the walk and that's what makes the difference."
MTF has been operating in New Zealand since 1970, and remains locally owned and operated. With more than 150 touchpoints, including franchises and vehicle dealers, the company maintains a presence in communities across the country, from Kerikeri to Invercargill. MTF emphasises a people-first approach, allowing customers direct access to staff for financial discussions.
The company attributes its achievements to its customer base and commitment to maintaining transparent, locally driven, and personalised service. "It's our customers who put us here," Callister adds. "And it's our promise to them to stay transparent, local and human."
