Ramsay Health & Westpac win for AI innovation on Appian

Today

Appian has announced the winners of its 2025 Innovation Awards, with Ramsay Health Care and Westpac among the recipients recognised for effective use of process orchestration and AI in their operations.

The awards highlight organisations around the world that have implemented solutions on the Appian platform to deliver measurable impact through business process improvements and the integration of artificial intelligence, including generative AI agents.

The Asia-Pacific and Japan award category featured two Australian organisations. Ramsay Health Care was acknowledged for deploying several applications to more than 150,000 users within 16 months using the Appian platform. The company's initiatives included the "Ramsay Health Hub", which supports patients at over 35 hospitals, enabling the digital processing of more than 150,000 pre-admissions and resulting in a 25% increase in adoption rates.

Ramsay's "Patient Tracking" application achieved an adoption rate greater than 80% and contributed to reductions of up to 50% in administrative tasks and inbound calls to hospitals. Its "Revenue Cycle Management" application helped recover USD $30 million through workflow and task automation. The organisation's efforts were also recognised with the CIO50 Team of the Year award.

Westpac Banking Corporation was also recognised for its use of generative AI to facilitate improved service delivery across various business areas. A recent initiative, the Mortgage Assessor AI solution, leverages the Appian platform to support mortgage assessors and brokers, decreasing the time required to evaluate loans and thereby accelerating approval times for customers.

"Congratulations to this year's Innovation Award winners for showcasing the transformative power of AI and intelligent process orchestration on the Appian Platform," said Neil Ward-Dutton, Vice President of AI, Automation and Analytics at IDC Europe. "GenAI, along with broader AI innovations, is reshaping automation to redefine how organisations operate, innovate, and deliver value at scale. These winning initiatives demonstrate what's possible when advanced AI is orchestrated with modern process platforms."

Additional award winners included organisations from North America, the EMEA region, Latin America, and the global public sector. Gordon Food Service, a food distributor in North America, was recognised for using the Appian platform to predict client purchasing patterns with up to 97% accuracy, reducing order entry times by up to 70%. Its AI-powered "Quote Builder" application helped generate 40% more quotes and shortened creation times from days to a few hours.

MagMutual, a mutual insurance provider, implemented solutions for intelligent claims and document processing, resulting in a 30% reduction in online quoting turnaround time and a 25% decrease in claims processing times, as well as increases in employee productivity and customer satisfaction.

Regeneron, in the biotechnology sector, built a clinical trial feasibility platform combining Appian's data and workflow capabilities with AI-driven intelligent search. This system reduced by 50% the time required to query data sources and create outputs for clinical trials.

Pharmaceutical company Novartis deployed a process orchestration layer on Appian to connect more than 15 core systems and unify clinical trial operations data, benefiting over 10,000 employees with improved productivity and faster decision-making. Towerbank International, a LATAM bank, launched "Ikigii", a customer application uniting crypto and traditional banking, reducing onboarding times and automating the vast majority of processes.

The Idaho Workforce Development Council in the United States partnered with Ignyte to implement the Appian platform for a state-level grant programme, automating eligibility verification and distributing nearly USD $40 million in aid to more than 14,000 students while saving the equivalent of three full-time staff positions.

"Our customers are setting a new standard for what's possible with AI and process orchestration," said Pavel Zamudio, Chief Customer Officer at Appian. "These Innovation Award winners are not only transforming their operations. They are creating meaningful, measurable impact for their employees and customers. We're proud to partner with organisations that share our vision of using technology to deliver real-world value at scale."
